Automotive diagnostic testing - keeping up with the latest technology

Technology is rapidly changing vehicles' drivability and ease of use. As time passes, more and more computer technology is introduced into the vehicle, and these computers are controlling more of the vehicle operations. In the 1990s there were only five main computers in a vehicle - transmission, SRS airbag, airbag reset, ABS brake repair, and AC. Fast forward to the 2010s and some cars have 30 plus computers or modules all linked together communicating with one another.

Our garage is equipped with everything needed to diagnose faults in the modern car - contact us to book an appointment for your vehicle today.

Expert diagnosis and repairs for electrical faults in modern cars

Modern cars have computers or modules for many systems including the engine, transmission, ABS Brake service, SRS Airbag, instruments, HVAC heater ventilation, car air conditioning, audio, car central locking, BCM Body control modules, and door control modules.

GT Auto Electrix has invested in training and equipment to be able to diagnose and repair faults in modern cars. Generally a customer comes in with a check engine light on. Automotive scanners are plugged into the car check and read any fault codes. A printed report is created and we clear any fault codes. Using the scanner to check data from the vehicle, we can locate faults. A Pico scope which is an automotive based oscilloscope can be used for pinpointing faults and testing many sensors or modules on the vehicle.

Ford case study

Some jobs are more involved and require a bit more detective work. The customer reported his car had a bad idle for some time. Another shop had put spark plus and ignition coils into the vehicle but this did not fix the fault. We traced the fault to the exhaust variable cam solenoid - it had been bent when someone had replaced the rocker cover gasket.

Suzuki case study

Most jobs are usually straight forward like this Suzuki swift that had the engine check light on and it had a code for the oxygen sensor. A new sensor was fitted code cleared and output checked on data and was all good.
